Before you worry

Noticing it is scary. Understanding it brings peace of mind.

Hair loss has many causes, and not all of them are permanent. Here is what is worth knowing:

  • 50–100
hairs a day is a normal amount to lose.It is worth a consultation if you shed more, if your hair looks thinner, or if you notice areas with less hair.
  • Stress, an illness or childbirth can make hair fall out months later. That shedding is usually temporary. That is why we look for the cause first.
  • The most common cause, in men and women, is hereditary. It cannot be cured, but it can be treated with medical follow-up. The earlier it is studied, the more non-surgical options there are.
  • A transplant does not stop the loss of hair that was not transplanted.Even after surgery, the hair you keep needs treatment and follow-up.

General information from the American Academy of Dermatology. What applies to your case is defined by the physician at the consultation.

Our method

Six steps. And the first one matters most.

Before treating, we need to understand why the hair is falling. Then the physician decides what to use at each step. We do not publish medication names: what works for one person may not suit another.

  1. 1

    Understand why it falls

Medical consultation with SmartHair and, if needed, lab tests or a genetic test. The results are interpreted by the physician. Without knowing the cause, any treatment is a gamble.

  2. 2

    Slow the loss

Address what is weakening the hair, for example the effect of certain hormones on the follicle.

  3. 3

    Stimulate growth

Help the hair you have grow stronger and stay longer in its growth phase.

  4. 4

    Nourish and regenerate

In-clinic sessions, such as mesotherapy and photobiostimulation, combined with your compounded formulation for home.

  5. 5

    Consider a transplant, if needed

Only when an area can no longer be recovered: robotic with ARTAS for large areas, or manual for small areas, beard and eyebrows. Even then, the earlier steps keep caring for the hair you keep.

  6. 6

    Maintain the results

Hair loss can be controlled, not cured: maintenance is what sustains the result. Maintenance treatment and regular follow-ups to keep what you have gained, with or without a transplant.

Medications for each step are prescribed only by a physician after a consultation. Please do not self-medicate.

“We will not sell you a treatment you do not need.”Dr. Irene Thuel, medical director of La Clínica del Pelo

If your case can be solved with a medical adjustment or a preventive treatment, we will not recommend an invasive procedure. If your donor area is not suitable for a transplant, we will tell you clearly. No promises we cannot keep.

Men and women

Hair loss does not look the same in everyone.

Men: the hairline, the crown and the everyday cap

It usually starts at the temples or the crown and progresses slowly. The earlier it is studied, the more non-surgical options there are.

Women: less volume all over

It is usually diffuse and may be related to hormonal changes, stress or nutritional deficiencies, which are reviewed at the consultation.

This is not a diagnosis. Only a medical consultation can tell what is causing the hair loss and which treatment is appropriate.

What few people tell you

The result does not end on the day of the procedure.

Much of the outcome depends on what comes after: care, follow-up visits and treating the hair you keep. That is why we stay close.

In-person follow-up

We check how your hair evolves at the clinic, not only through photos.

Timely adjustments

If something does not respond as expected, the physician adjusts the plan.

Care for the hair you keep

A transplant does not protect native hair: that hair is treated too.

FAQ

What people ask us most

See all questions

Is it normal to lose hair every day?

Yes. Losing between 50 and 100 hairs a day is considered normal. If you notice more shedding than usual, less volume or areas where your scalp shows, a medical consultation helps find the cause.

Do I always need a transplant?

No. Many people can be treated without surgery through a hair restoration protocol. A transplant is considered when restoration is not enough or when there are bald areas you want to recover, and always after the consultation.

Who will see me?

A physician from La Clínica del Pelo’s medical team, trained in our protocol and working under the medical direction of Dr. Irene Thuel, code MED10355.

How long until I see changes?

It depends on each person, the cause of the hair loss and the treatment prescribed. We do not publish fixed timelines because every case responds differently. During the consultation, the physician explains what to expect in your case and how we will measure progress at follow-up visits.

Does hair restoration work for women?

Yes. Hair loss in women has its own causes, such as hormonal changes, stress or nutritional deficiencies, which are studied during the consultation to define the plan.
